The picture shows a Soviet Monument to World War II heros in Panfilov Park in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It honors soldiers of the Almaty infantry unit who died fighting the Nazis outside of Moscow. Here, people come to sit, rest, and remember. Let’s pray that the peace of the Lord dwells among this memorial park as it encourages reflection and rest. May it be a common place for people to encounter Jesus. May it also serve as a reminder for believers in Kazakhstan to remember what Jesus Christ did on the cross for us all as he “causes us to remember his wonderful works” (Psalm 111:5).

Taz: an ancient Kazakh hunting dog. There are legends and symbols for this special dog, representing purity and morality. As it was prized among its people for thousands of years, let’s pray for scriptural truths to penetrate the long line of beliefs that have been widely accepted. May the Lord begin to build upon and prune away many of the ideas and understandings on what is good and right in Kazakhstan.

“God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all… and we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.” 1 John 1:5-6

The Altai Mountains stretch across Eastern Kazakhstan. It is said that this region is mystic, fabled, and holy. Here, religions intersect: Shamanism, Islam, Christianity, and more. It’d be easy to celebrate religious diversity, but may we bear in mind the spiritual realm is alive and active. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but… against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Let’s pray for the word of God to come alive and believers to put on the full armor of God to protect and engage in Kazakhstan’s spiritual battle.

In the rural countryside, Kazakh women hold up an exquisitely ornate tapestry. Handmade and wonderful, their craftsmanship is only a mere portion of the Lord’s. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do,” so may this verse dwell in the hearts of artisans and creators in Kazakhstan. Let’s pray the Lord brings revelation to their hearts in a way that is familiar to them through their God- given, creative gifts.

Even though around 20% of Kazakhstan’s population would profess themselves to be Christians, less than 1% are evangelical. Let’s pray for a spiritual revival in Kazakhstan. In 2 Kings, God opens the eyes of Elisha’s servant, so let’s pray for spiritual eyes to be opened all across the country. May hearts and eyes be opened to the work of God’s kingdom in action in Kazakhstan!

The photo pictured is of a Finnish model, Saara Sihvonen. The shoot was done in Kazakhstan and was featured in the worldwide French lifestyle magazine ELLE. The media industry is a global network and has dominance over its mass audience. Let’s pray for strong, spirit- filled believers to step into Kazakhstan’s marketplace to reach those who are caught in the trap of lies, comparisons, and insecurities that are often put onto both the producing and receiving side of the media world. We pray for believers to be able to take full advantage of their harvest field within the media industry, influencing and speaking life into their coworkers, bosses, and audiences with wisdom and purity.

So far in the 2018 Winter Olympics, Kazakhstan as a whole has one bronze medal. It was won by Yulia Galysheva in freestyle skiing. Just as Galysheva represents her country, believers all around the world represent Christ. Let’s pray that believers in Kazakhstan rise up as Christ’s ambassadors, modeling their lives after Jesus, walking in His authority, and bringing His message to their lost friends and families. We pray the Spirit’s empowerment over believers in Kazakhstan to be able to walk in this identity.

Because of Kazakhstan’s nomadic and pastoralism lifestyle, they had a strong oral tradition. There were many tribes from various origins, and they sought to maintain the stories and memories of their ancestors. Knowing their family lineage was important. Today, even though this value has faded, Kazakhs still see themselves as one nation. As Kazakhs see through the lens of unity, may the message of the body of Christ connect with their hearts. May the come to know the Lord and find deep comfort, security, and identity with the fact that when we know Jesus we are also apart of “the body of Christ, and each one of [us] is a part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27).

Often as a long- established welcome gesture, Kazakhs will dress in traditional wear and offer guests bread and salt. Inviting foreigners and strangers to their table isn’t uncommon. As people in Kazakhstan have mastered the art of invitation, let’s pray the purpose behind it is infused into the heart of their outreached hands. John 1:14 says that the “word became flesh,” so let’s pray believers in Kazakhstan open their lives to those who are lost in their country, reflecting Christ’s model of bringing both outsiders and friends into their lives to become family in Him.

Kazakhstan is a country abounding with beauty, resources, and opportunities. May we praise the Lord for the work He is doing and is sure to do within the hearts of all the people there. May we mediate on His faithfulness and praise Him for all the wonders He has done throughout Kazakhstan!
